Women’s Volleyball Falls to Westfield State University, 3-0

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Elms College senior outside hitter Stacy Croteau (Agawam, Mass.) downed a team-best seven kills, but Westfield State University's Julia Warner (Lee, Mass.) led the Owls with 10 kills in a 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-12) sweep of the Blazers in Tuesday evening's non-conference women's volleyball match.

With the loss, Elms falls to 3-3 on the season, while Westfield State improves to 2-8 overall.

In addition to collecting seven kills, Croteau added eight digs and one ace, while senior outside hitter Jennifer Rego (Fall River, Mass.) had four kills. Sophomore setter Ashley Fuller (Amherst, Mass.) registered four aces in the losing effort for the Blazers.

The Owls' Kelsey Leonard (Billerica, Mass.) had six kills and nine blocks to help spark the victory, Alex Shaw (East Falmouth, Mass.) chipped in with seven kills, Lindsay Rescott (Northport, N.Y.) recorded 11 digs, and Kayleigh Shea (Chelmsford, Mass.) posted nine digs and a pair of aces.

Kerin DeGirolamo (North Attleboro, Mass.) directed Westfield State's attack with 16 assists to help seal the victory.

The Blazers return to action Friday, Sept. 16 and 17 at the Cardinal Classic hosted by Plattsburgh State. Elms kicks off tournament action with a 6:30 p.m. showdown with St. Michael's College on Friday.
