Women’s Volleyball Splits with Curry College, Smith College

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – Elms College junior outside hitter Christina Martin (Chicopee, Mass.) smashed a team-best 14 kills and recorded a team-high 11 digs against Curry College to help the Blazers earn a split in Saturday afternoon's non-conference women's volleyball tri-match hosted by Smith College.

Elms (3-2 overall) earned a 3-1 win over Curry before falling 3-0 to host Smith.

Senior setter Jennifer Rego (Fall River, Mass.) paced the Blazers' offense dishing out 18 assists, while sophomore setter Ashley Fuller (Amherst, Mass.) handed out nine helpers in her return to the court.

Senior outside hitter Stacy Croteau (Agawam, Mass.) added nine kills and nine digs in the winning effort, while Rego and sophomore middle hitter Rachel Cowan (Ellington, Conn.) floored five kills apiece.

Cowan added a pair of solo blocks while Croteau served up nine of the team's 13 service aces.

Smith 3, Elms 0

In Elms' loss to the Pioneers, Rego and Croteau totaled three kills each, while Croteau and freshman libero Caitlyn Larvey (Greenfield, Mass.) added eight and seven digs respectively.

Fuller added eight assists in the loss.

Elms returns to action to non-league action on Tuesday, Sept. 13 when it travels to Westfield State University for a 7:00 p.m. match with the Owls.
