Four Women’s Volleyball Players Named All-NECC
ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Elms College freshman setter Ashley Fuller (Amherst, Mass.) was named the women's volleyball 2010 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Rookie of the Year to highlight four players who received All-NECC honors as announced by the league office on Monday.
Fuller, who was also named Second Team All-NECC, earned three NECC Rookie of the Week awards during the season as she finished conference play with 166 assists (which ranks second among conference setters). She was third in NECC play with 6.92 assists per set. In overall play, her total of 486 overall assists (5.86 per set) places her fourth among the leagues' setters. Overall, Fuller finished her debut campaign with 32 kills, 39 service aces, 170 digs (2.05 per set) and 27 total blocks.
Joining Fuller on the all conference second team are junior outside hitters Stacy Croteau (Agawam, Mass.) and Jenn Rego (Fall River, Mass.).
Croteau finished the 2010 season with a team-high 211 kills, averaging 2.37 per set and a team-best 254 digs, averaging 2.85 per set. She delivered a collegiate-career high 21 kills and a collegiate-career best 25 digs in a 3-2 win over Southern Vermont College.
Rego served up a team-best 42 aces, placed third on the team in kills with 129 and was second on the squad in digs with 209 (2.82 per set). 20 of Rego's service aces came during NECC competition.
Senior middle hitter Melissa Clark (Chicopee, Mass.) was named Honorable Mention All-NECC as she concluded her final season with 52 total blocks to lead the team. She also smashed 158 kills, dug 204 balls and served up 28 aces during the 2010 season.
