Women's Volleyball Flies Past St. Joseph College (Conn.), 3-0

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - Elms College senior middle hitter Melissa Clark (Chicopee, Mass.) downed six kills, added nine digs and registered five solo blocks to help lift the Blazers to a 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-21) sweep of St. Joseph College (Conn.) in Thursday evening's non-conference women's volleyball match.

With the win, Elms improves to 5-13 on the season while St. Joseph falls to 1-15 overall.

Clark and sophomore outside hitter Christina Martin (Chicopee, Mass.) each belted six kills to spark Elms' offense and freshman setter Ashley Fuller (Amherst, Mass.) dished out 21 assists to direct the effort.

Junior outside hitter Jenn Rego (Fall River, Mass.) collected a team-best 23 digs and Fuller added 14 digs of her own in a solid defensive effort, while Martin and Clark provided nine digs apiece.

As a team, the Blazers rose up for 11.0 blocks including five solo stuffs from Clark as well as three solo and one assisted block from freshman opposite hitter Rachel Cowan (Ellington, Conn.)

Rego also served up six of Elms' 10 aces in the sweep while Cowan and junior libero Anne Blanchette (Byfield, Mass.) contributed seven digs each.

Elms returns to action on Thursday, Oct. 14 when it hosts Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA). First serve is set for 7:00 p.m. at Picknelly Arena.
