Women’s Volleyball Earns Split At Mt. Holyoke Tri-Match

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – The Elms College women's volleyball team earned a split in Saturday afternoon's non-conference tri-match hosted by Mt. Holyoke College. The Blazers fell 3-0 to the host Lyons before earning a 3-2 (21-25, 18-25, 25-20, 25-22, 17-15) victory over Castleton State College.

With the split, Elms improves to 3-11 on the season.

In the opening contest against Mt. Holyoke, junior outside hitter Jenn Rego (Fall River, Mass.) and junior outside hitter Stacy Croteau (Agawam, Mass.) each downed eight kills to highlight the Blazers' offense.

Senior middle hitter Melissa Clark (Chicopee, Mass.) also added 13 digs and assisted on three blocks while freshman setter Ashley Fuller (Amherst, Mass.) handed out 16 assists in the losing effort.

In Elms' five-set victory over Castleton State, the Blazers rallied from a 0-2 deficit in the contest led by Rego's 16 kills. Croteau added 10 kills while Clark contributed eight to help ignite Elms' attack which was directed by Fuller who dished out 32 assists.

Fuller contributed in the serving game as well, downing eight aces, while Rego and senior middle hitter Laura Kulig (Holyoke, Mass.) added three service aces each.

Croteau dug nine balls while Rego notched eight digs in the winning effort.

Elms returns to non-conference action on Wednesday, Sept. 29 when it hosts Regis College in a non-conference contest. First-serve is set for 7:00 p.m. at Picknelly Arena.
