Women’s Volleyball Falls To Daniel Webster College, Newbury College

BROOKLINE, Mass. – Elms College junior outside hitter Stacy Croteau (Agawam, Mass.) downed a combined 16 kills, but the Blazers were swept by Daniel Webster College 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-20) and fell 3-1 (25-21, 25-15, 21-25, 27-25) to Newbury College in Saturday afternoon's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's volleyball tri-match hosted by Newbury at Hellenic College.

With the two losses, Elms falls to 5-16 overall, 1-2 in league play, Daniel Webster improves to 12-5 on the season, 4-0 in NECC action and Newbury moves to 6-11 overall, 1-2 in conference play.

Against Daniel Webster, Croteau downed seven kills and collected 12 digs, while junior outside hitter Jenn Rego (Fall River, Mass.) notched a team-best 13 digs and collected three assists in addition to her four kills.

Freshman setter Ashley Fuller (Amherst, Mass.) paced the Blazers' offense with 13 assists and smashed five of the squad's seven service aces.

The Eagles received a match-high nine-kill effort from Chelsey Crawford (Westfield, Mass.) while Caitlyn DePierro (Billerica, Mass.) handed out 21 helpers and added nine digs.

Catherine Ferraro (Litchfield, N.H.) and Brier Temple (Concord, N.H.) recorded 14 and 12 digs respectively in the winning effort while Jennifer Finneran (Barnstead, N.H.) rose up for three solo blocks in the contest.

Against Newbury, Croteau again led the Blazers in kills, this time with nine, while senior middle hitter Melissa Clark (Chicopee, Mass.) smashed seven of her 12 total kills in the 3-1 loss to the Nighthawks.

Rego directed the defensive effort with 17 digs, while freshman defensive specialist Megan Grygorcewicz (Easthampton, Mass.) notched 13.  Croteau and Clark dug 10 balls each while Croteau served up five aces in the loss. Fuller also amassed 23 assists for the Blazers.

Newbury's Jesymarian Touron (Brockton, Mass.) terminated 10 balls and added 10 digs, while Amy Chen (Chelmsford, Mass.) collected a match-high 21 digs to help secure the Nighthawks' first conference victory of the season.

Tricia Corrriveau (Coventry, R.I.) and Regina Sibilia (Agawam, Mass.) registered 13 and 12 digs each while Sibilia dished out 25 assists.

Elms returns to NECC action on Wednesday, Oct. 20 when its hosts Bay Path College. First-serve is set for 7:00 p.m. at Picknelly Arena. The contest also marks the team's "pink-out" event. Fans are asked to help both teams promote the cause by wearing pink and donating a minimum of $1.

All money raised will then be donated directly to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
