Women’s Volleyball Falls To Sage Colleges And Utica College In Day Two Of Union College Tournament

SCHENECTADY, N.Y.  – Elms College senior middle hitter Melissa Clark (Chicopee, Mass.) totaled 15 kills in two matches, but the Blazers were swept by the Sage Colleges 3-0 (27-25, 25-19, 25-20) and Utica College 3-0 (27-25, 25-22, 25-17) in day two action of the Union College women's volleyball tournament.

Elms moves to 2-9 on the season with the two losses.

Against Sage, Clark downed a team-high 10 kills, notched nine digs and added a solo and four assisted blocks. Junior outside hitter Stacy Croteau (Agawam, Mass.) contributed eight kills and a team-best 13 digs.

Freshman setter Ashley Fuller (Amherst, Mass.) paced the offensive attack with 21 assists and added an assisted block while freshman opposite hitter Rachel Cowan (Ellington, Conn.) assisted on two blocks.

Croteau led the Blazers in kills against Utica with six, while Clark added five. Cowan was a force on defense, amassing 13 digs while Clark added 11. Both Cowan and Clark added a pair of assisted blocks while Cowan also downed three service aces in the losing effort.

Fuller handed out 15 assists for Elms against Utica.

Elms returns to action Tuesday, Sept. 21 when it hosts Framingham State University. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m. at Picknelly Arena.
