Men’s Swimming in Fourth Place After Day Two Action at NEISDA Championship

SOUTH KINGSTON, R.I. – The Elms College men's swim team is currently in fourth place out of 11 teams following Saturday's New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving (NEISDA) Championship action hosted by the University of Rhode Island.

Due to the inclement weather scheduled for Saturday evening, the finals were held Saturday morning. Elms concludes NEISDA Championship action on Sunday, February 16 at 9:00 a.m.

The 200-yard medley relay team of sophomore James Grippo (Longmeadow, Mass.), sophomore Ethan Etheridge (Pawtucket, R.I.), senior Keegan Goan (Westbrook, Maine) and senior Aaron Starke (Chicopee, Mass.) placed third in the event with a new school record time of 1:39.07.

Goan placed second in the 50-yard butterfly (23.97), Starke notched a time of 25.35 and senior Andrew Pioggia (East Longmeadow, Mass.) placed 29th with a time of 29.64. Etheridge powered to a time of 1:00.45 in the 100-yard breaststroke lowering his own school record and sophomore Mikhail Kuyuzov (Swampscott, Mass.) came in 19th with a time of 1:08.55.

Freshman Nicklaus Cirillo (Gloversville, N.Y.) raced to a sixth place finish in the 200-yard freestyle with a new school record time of 1:49.55, while junior Niels Thomsen (Southington, Conn.) secured 18th place with a time of 1:59.31 in the event. Cirillo also came in third in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:22.33).

The 800-yard freestyle relay combination of Cirillo, Grippo, Kuyuzov and Thomsen glided to an eighth place mark of 7:45.51 to set a new school record.
