Men’s Swimming Falls to Norwich University, 169-83

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Elms College sophomore Ethan Etheridge (Pawtucket, R.I.) set a new Norwich University pool record in the 50-yard breaststroke but the Blazers fell to the Cadets, 169-83  in Saturday's dual meet in Northfield, Vt.

With the loss, Elms moves to 5-2 overall, while Norwich moves to 5-4 on the season.

Etheridge won the 50-yard breaststroke in a Norwich pool record time of 28.12 and won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:05.82.

Freshman Nicklaus Cirillo (Gloversville, N.Y.) won the 500-yard freestyle (5:15.81) and placed third in the 200-yard freestyle (1:55.57).

Seniors Aaron Starke (Chicopee, Mass.) and Keegan Goan (Westbrook, Maine) each finished second in two events. Starke placed second in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle events with respective times of 23.42 and 54.08, while Goan secured second place in the 50-yard backstroke (27.95) and the 50-yard butterfly (24.88).

Sophomore James Grippo (Longmeadow, Mass.) tabbed second place honors in the 1650-yard free (18:53.81) and finished third in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:02.28.

Elms' A relay team of Grippo, Etheridge, Goan and Starke won the 200-yard medley relay (1:44.28), while the Blazers' B squad of Cirillo, junior Niels Thomsen (Southington, Conn.), sophomore Mikhail Kuyuzov (Swampscott, Mass.) and sophomore Andrew Pioggia (East Longmeadow, Mass.) touched the wall in fourth place (1:58.46).

The A tandem of Etheridge, Goan, Cirillo and Starke raced to second place in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:33.85), while the B combination of Thomsen, Pioggia, Kuyuzob and Grippo clocked a fourth place mark of 1:45.03.

Elms is back in action on Saturday, January 25 when it hosts Regis College at 1:00 p.m. at Partyka Natatorium.
