Men’s Swimming Powers Past Mount Saint Mary College, 113-72

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College sophomore Ethan Etheridge (Pawtucket, R.I.) set a new Blazers' school and pool record in the 100-meter breaststroke and senior Keegan Goan (Westbrook, Maine) tabbed a new school record in the 100-meter individual medley as the Blazers posted a 113-72 victory over Mount Saint Mary College in Saturday afternoon's dual meet at Partyka Natatorium.

With the win, Elms improves to 5-1 overall, while Mount Saint Mary moves to 3-5 on the season.

Etheridge's school and pool record in the 100-meter breaststroke came in a time of 1:10.09 – besting his previous mark of 1:11.55 set last season. Etheridge also placed second in the 50-meter freestyle (26.24).

Goan set a new school record in the 100-meter individual medley gliding to a time of 1:05.45 and also picked up first place honors in the 50-meter butterfly (27.94).

Senior Aaron Starke (Chicopee, Mass.) secured victories in the 50-meter freestyle (25.90), the 100-meter freestyle (1:00.37) and placed fourth in the 400-meter freestyle (5:41.80), while freshman Nicklaus Cirillo (Gloversville, N.Y.) swam to first place in the 200-meter freestyle (2:10.73) and the 400-meter freestyle (4:49.64).

Sophomore James Grippo (Longmeadow, Mass.) contributed a top time in the 800-meter freestyle (10:02.37) and finished second in the 100-meter backstroke (1:08.25).

Sophomore Mikhail Kuyuzov (Swampscott, Mass.) added third place finishes in the 100-meter backstroke (1:12.19) and the 100-meter breaststroke (1:20.33) and junior Niels Thomsen (Southington, Conn.) placed third in the 200-meter freestyle (2:11.95), fourth in the 100-meter freestyle (1:06.56) and fifth in the 100-meter individual medley (1:17.80).

Sophomore Andrew Pioggia (East Longmeadow, Mass.) chipped in a third place mark in the 50-meter butterfly (33.94), and finished fifth in the 50-meter freestyle and 100-meter breaststroke with respective times of 30.61 and 1:32.20.

The 200-meter medley relay squad of Grippo, Etheridge, Goan and Cirillo knifed through the water to a time of 2:00.19 to win the event.

The men's team returns to action when both squads travel to Norwich University on Saturday, January 18 at 1:00 p.m.
