Men’s and Women’s Swim Teams Compete at Mount Saint Vincent College Relay Invitational

YONKERS, N.Y. – The Elms College men's swim team tabbed a first place finish, while the women's swim team placed third in Saturday afternoon's Mount Saint Vincent College Relay Invitational in Yonkers, N.Y.

On the men's side, Elms totaled 94 points, winning six of the seven relays, followed by Purchase College and Sarah Lawrence College who tied for second with 56 points and Bard College earned fourth place with 36 points.

Sarah Lawrence won the women's meet with 84 points, followed by Purchase with 82 points, Elms with 48 points Bard with 24 points and host Mount Saint Vincent with 18 points.

The Blazers' men's squad of sophomore Stephen Lynch (Madison, Conn.), sophomore Ethan Etheridge (Pawtucket, R.I.), senior Keegan Goan (Westbrook, Maine) and senior Aaron Starke (Chicopee, Mass.) won the 200-yard medley relay (1:42.83).

The combination of sophomore James Grippo (Longmeadow, Mass.), sophomore Kyle Murphy (Holyoke, Mass.) freshman Nicklaus Cirillo (Gloversville, N.Y.) and Lynch won the 200-yard backstroke relay (1:53.73). The tandem of Etheridge, sophomore Andrew Pioggia (East Longmeadow, Mass.), junior Niels Thomsen (Southington, Conn.) and Lynch won the 200-yard breaststroke relay (2:09.57), while Goan, Grippo, Murphy and Etheridge won the 200-yard butterfly relay 1:47.18.

Grippo, Etheridge, Goan and Starke tabbed first place in the 400-yard medley relay (4:00.50), while the squad of Thomsen, Murphy, Lynch and Cirillo secured first place in the 500-yard freestyle relay with a time of 4:40.47.

For the women, the 200-yard backstroke relay squad of freshman Madeline Heelon (Agawam, Mass.), sophomore Miranda Pratt (Southington, Conn.), senior Kelly Gilhooly (Bloomfield, Conn.) and freshman Sarah Swart (Willington, Conn.) touched the wall second (2:27.92), while the tandem of Gilhooly, sophomore Crystal Archibald (Portland, Maine), freshman Abigail Will (Hopkinton, Mass.) and Swart placed third in the 200-yard medley relay 2:09.98.

The unit of Archibald, senior Jillian Francis (Methuen, Mass.), sophomore Gabriela Starsiak (Chicopee, Mass.) and freshman Amy Sullivan (Enfield, Conn.) placed third in the 200-yard breaststroke relay with a time of 2:49.27, and Will, Francis freshman Kelly O'Connell (Monson, Mass.) and Heelon powered to a third place mark in the 200-yard butterfly relay with a time of 2:28.08.

The 200-yard freestyle combination of Swart, Will, Starsiak and Francis also tabbed third place honors with a time of 2:03.72.

Both teams are back in action Saturday, November 2 when they travel to Gordon College for tri-meet action with Simmons College at 1:00 p.m.
