Men’s Swimming Tops St. Joseph’s College (Maine), 140-108

CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Elms College men's 400-meter freestyle relay team secured a new school record as the Blazers downed St. Joseph's College (Maine), 140-108 in Saturday afternoon's dual meet at Partyka Natatorium.

With the win, Elms improves to 2-0 on the season, while St. Joseph's moves to 1-1 overall.

The Blazers' combination of sophomores Stephen Lynch (Madison, Conn.) and Ethan Etheridge (Pawtucket, R.I.), and seniors Aaron Starke (Chicopee, Mass.) and Keegan Goan (Westbrook, Maine) notched a time of 3:56.75 and set a new school record in the 400-meter freestyle relay.

Three swimmers also notched a pair of individual wins for Elms as Goan won the 100-meter butterfly (1:02.51) and the 50-meter butterfly (27.42), Etheridge won the 50-meter freestyle (26.11) and the 100-meter freestyle (57.94), and freshman Nicklaus Cirillo (Gloversville, N.Y.) won the 400-meter freestyle (4:41.51) and the 800-meter freestyle (9:54.26).

Lynch added a top time of 2:12.87 in the 200-meter freestyle, while the tandem of sophomores Kyle Murphy (Holyoke, Mass.) and James Grippo (Longmeadow, Mass.), Cirillo and junior Niels Thomsen (Southington, Conn.) placed second in the 200-meter medley relay with a time of 2:07.24.

For St. Joseph's, the team of Alex Gilvey (Windham, Maine), Ben Johnson (Belmont, Mass.), Preston Bowden (Biddeford, Maine) and Evan Wright (Preston, Conn.) won the 200-meter medley relay.

Gilvey won three events including the 50-meter backstroke (30.16), the 100-meter backstroke (1:04.36) and the 100-meter individual medley (1:07.14).  

Elms returns to action on Saturday, November 16 at Colby-Sawyer College at 1:00 p.m.
