Colby-Sawyer College Edges Men’s Swimming, 148-143

NEW LONDON, N.H. – Elms College sophomore Stephen Lynch (Madison, Conn.) won a pair of events and set a Colby-Sawyer College pool record and a Blazers' school record in the 100-yard backstroke, but the Chargers posted a thrilling 148-143 victory in Saturday afternoon's men's swim meet in New London, N.H.

With the loss, Elms moves to 2-1 on the season, while Colby-Sawyer improves to 1-2 overall.

Lynch powered to a time of 57.62 in the 100-yard backstroke to set a new Colby-Sawyer pool record and Elms school record and added a victory in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:14.43.

Senior Keegan Goan (Westbrook, Maine) won three events including the 100-yard butterfly (56.40), 50-yard butterfly (24.98) and the 100-yard individual medley (1:00.09), while sophomore Ethan Etheridge (Pawtucket, R.I.) also secured three wins in the 50-yard freestyle (23.35), the 50-yard breaststroke (30.33) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.41).

Freshman Nicklaus Cirillo (Gloversville, N.Y.) added top finishes in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:55.61 and the 500-yard freestyle (5:22.89) and he led off the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team Etheridge, senior Aaron Starke (Chicopee, Mass.) and Goan which clocked a time of 1:34.27.

Despite not tabbing any individual wins, Colby-Sawyer won the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events to post its narrow victory over the Blazers.

Elms returns to action on Saturday, November 23 at UMass-Dartmouth at 1:00 p.m.
