Hour of Power Relay
On Tuesday, November 12, the Elms College swim teams will
participate in the nationwide “Hour of Power Relay.”
This will be the sixth year of taking part in this event in which
swimmers across the country and worldwide, at the same time do an
all out, leave it all in the water, sprint relay for one hour.
As we are an east coast team, we will be starting the relay
at 4:45 p.m. in our pool.
The “Hour of Power Relay” was started by Carleton
College in honor of swimmer Ted Mullin who died in the fall of 2006
from a rare form of cancer called sarcoma. The event raises
cancer awareness and is also a fundraiser for cancer research at
the University of Chicago. This event has become a tradition
for our teams and campus and took on extra meaning when cancer
struck our athletic department and our men’s swimming team.
This event is bigger than any one individual, is physically
exhausting and emotionally draining, yet upon completion provides a
sense of a greater good and a job well done.
