Men’s Swimming Downs the University of New England, 122-95

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Elms College sophomore Ethan Etheridge (Pawtucket, R.I.) won three events and the Blazers posted a 122-95 victory over the University of New England in Saturday afternoon's swim meet.

With the win, Elms concludes its dual meet season 7-2 overall. The Blazers return to action February 14-16 at the 2013-14 New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships at the University of Rhode Island.

Etheridge won the 50-yard breaststroke (28.37), the 200-yard breaststroke (2:31.18) and the 100-yard individual medley (1:00.13), while senior Keegan Goan (Westbrook, Maine) added victories in the 50-yard backstroke (29.59) and the 50-yard butterfly (25.08). Goan also secured second place honors in the 100-yard butterfly (55.91).

Sophomore James Grippo (Longmeadow, Mass.) won the 1650-yard freestyle (18:59.33) unopposed, while also picking up a first place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (5:30.56) and second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.17.

Senior Aaron Starke (Chicopee, Mass.) won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.34 and placed second in the 50-yard backstroke (30.76) and the 100-yard freestyle (54.23).

The 200-yard medley relay squad of Starke, Etheridge, Goan and sophomore Mikhail Kuyuzov (Swampscott, Mass.) won the event with a time of 1:48.55.
