Holman's Double Double Helps Strike Down Bison

DUDLEY, MA - The Elms College women's volleyball team took down the Nichols Bison in four sets coming up with a 3-1 victory. First year Jaylen Holman attained 37 assists and 14 digs, achieving another double double match.

How it Happened

The Elm's women's volleyball team came out with a quick six points in the first set to build a 6-1 lead against the Nichols College Bison. For the rest of the set, the Blazers held the lead except for when the Bison jumped a point ahead, 15-16 where Elm's Alysha Izquierdo strike down a kill to tie up the score at 16's.  Holidng onto the lead the Blazers climb point by point to 25. The Bison keep the score close causing the set to trail into extra points. with the score 25-24, the Blazers clinch the set win with another kill by Izquierdo and Jaylianne Ramos Figueroa ending the match 27-25. Blazers take the lead in the match 1-0.

The second set is underway, the Blazers start with the lead but do not hold onto it for long. By the middle of the set the Bison have created a five point lead, 10-15. Quickly the Blazers start making their comeback tying up the match at 16's and again at 18's. The Blazers continue to battle for the lead tying up the match again at 20's and one last time at 21-21. The Bison finish out the set on a 4 point run securing the second set 21-25, tying the match 1-1.

Elms starts off the third set with seven points, including apoint off of a block from Izquierdo and Francesca Dierienzo. The Bison turn the match around froma  7-1 lead by the Blazers to a tied up match 8-8, with a 1-5 run. The Blazers would hold onto the lead for the rest of the set, denying the Bison a chance to tie the match or grab the lead. Blazers would pinch the set win 25-22, up 2-1 in the match.

The fourth and final set wasn't quick, both teams were evenly matched. With the match tied up at 7's and 8's early on, the Blazers knew they were going to have to play smart if they wanted to grab the win. The Bison kept the score close never lettig the Blazers get ahead by more than three points. With the score 24-22 the Blazers were sure to have clinched the win, but the Bison were not done fighting. With two quick errors by the Blazers and a Kill from Bisons' Jayleen Fregan the match became tied up, 25-25. With an ace by Elms's Alyssa Moore and a final kill from Figueroa the match was declared a Blazers win, 27-25.
