Blazers Drop Pair at Tri-Match in New London, CT

NEW LONDON, CT - Elms Blazers women's volleyball traveled to New London, CT to face off the Connecticut College Camels and the Coast Guard Academy Bears for a tri-match Saturday afternoon. The Blazers battled for five sets in the first match against the Camels, coming up short in the fifth (2-3). Heading down the road to the Bears den falling in three sets, going 0-2 for the Tri-match.

SCORE: Elms 0, Coast Guard 3 (22-25, 18-25, 16-25)

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Bears had a step ahead of the Blazers at the start of the contest, leading 4-11. The Blazers quickly found their momentum going on a 5-0 run with two kills from senior Jaylianne Ramos Figueroa (Boca Raton, FL) pinching the gap 14-18. The set was an equally fought battle between the two teams going point for point, with no more than a three point gap. Elms chiseled down the Bears' lead with two aces by Angelica Marks (Miami, FL) putting the score 22-24. Coast Guard had the final kill to end the first set 22-25. 

The second set began going point for point, with the score tied 5-5. Elms College started to pull away as Coast Guard went on a 8-15 run, taking the set 13-20. The Blazers made an attempt to close out the set, but came up short 18-25.

The third set remained close as the Blazers only held a 1-point lead mid-way through at 15-14. Coast Guard quickly changed the script by going on a 1-9 run (16-23), with two final points and a kill by Claire Portigue to win the final set 16-25.
