Corsairs Takedown Blazers in Three

CHICOPEE, MA -The visiting UMass Dartmouth Corsairs came to Picknelly Arena tonight to face the Blazers where they won in three sets. The set scores for the match were 22-25, 16-25 and 23-25.

How it Happened

The first set was a evenly matched, with Corsairs ending it with 12 kills only one kill more than the Blazers who had 11. Elms had a hitting percentage of .139, which would not be the highest in the match for them. UMass attained a .212 hitting percentage, which would also end up not being their highest for the match. The Blazers had the lead for only a couple points after going on a 4-0 run to lead 6-5 early in the set. The Corsairs did not let up. Aftergoing being tied up at 7-7, 8-8, and 9-9, the Corsairs jumped ahead. Despite a late 5-0 run, bringing the blazers from a 17-23 gap, to just a point difference of 22-23. Elms was unable to secure the lead and fell 22-25 in the first set, Corsairs led match 0-1.

UMass had a lead of four points, 7-11 reaching the middle of the set. The Blazers came back, going on a six point run taking the lead 13-11. Elms would hold onto the lead till the Corsairs tied the score up at 15. The Blazers would only get one more point and stay at 16 the rest of the set, falling 16-25. UMass leading amtch 0-2.

The Blazers were down most of the third set until a kill from Francesca Dirienzo helped Elms gain a two point lead 18-16. Both teams traided kill for kill tied at 18's into 19's, until the Corsairs created a two point gap. The Blazers were unable to clinch the lead and fell to a 22-25 final, UMass winning the match.
