Blazers Sweep Lyndon Hornets

LYNDON, VT– The Elms College women's volleyball team is heading home tonight after a 3 set sweep at Northern Vermont University where they faced the Lyndon Hornets. The Blazers won on set scores of (25-13, 25-9, 25-15). The win brings Elms to 2-6 overall and 0-0 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.

How It Happened

Early in the set Elms only had a 4-2 lead, the Blazers kept a 2 point lead midway through until they started to get hot. Going on a 5-0 run including an ace by Angelica Marks (Miami, FL) brings the Blazer ahead 15-7. As the set continued on Elms grew the lead to eight points (20-12) finishing out the set with kills across the board from Jaylianne Ramos Figueroa (Boca Raton, FL), Jaylen Holman (Las Cruces, NM) and ending the set with the final kill from Marks. Elms won 25-13 and took a 1-0 lead in the match.

The Lyndon Hornets had an early jump in the second, grabbing hold of a lead of 3-1. Quickly the Blazers made the adjustments they needed to get back into the momentum they ended the last set with. With the set tied 4-4, the Blazers change the pace and go on a 8-0 run (12-4). The Blazers hold on to their lead and hold the Hornets at nine for the rest of the set. Elms won the second set 25-9, leading 2-0 in the match.

Elms carried their energy over into the third, where they never trailed. Gaining a 7-2 lead early in the set. The Hornets made a final 2-4 run to close the gap to 12-9trying to get a hold on the lead but were unsuccessful. The Blazers chipped away and secured the match win after a final kill by Figueroa. Elms College wins the final set 25-15, going 3-0 in the match.

Inside the Numbers

- Angelica Marks had a .375 kill percentage for the match

- Jaylianne Ramos Figueroa led the Blazers in Kills with a total of 12 as well as added 10 digs.

- Jaylen Holman attained 19 assists in the match
