Goodchild Tallies Two Goals, Two Assists To Lead Women’s Soccer Past Wheelock College, 6-0

BOSTON, Mass. – Elms college freshman forward Christina Goodchild (East Longmeadow, Mass.) registered two goals and two assists to help pace the Blazers to a 6-0 victory over Wheelock College in Wednesday evening's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's soccer game at Winsor Field in Boston, Mass.

With the win, Elms improves its winning streak to five games and moves to 7-9 on the season, 5-2 in league action. Wheelock falls to 0-15 overall, 0-7 in NECC action.

Elms' freshman midfielder Gianna Gorneault (Springfield, Mass.) got the scoring started early for the Blazers, blasting an unassisted goal at the 3:02 mark.

In the 11th minute of action, Elms set up a corner kick and took advantage of a misplay by Wheelock that resulted in an own goal score to up the Blazers' lead to 2-0.

At the 22:37 mark Goodchild tallied the first of her two scores when she received a pass from junior forward Jennifer Killion (Cambridge, Mass.) and found the back of the net.

Seven minutes later, Goodchild returned the favor finding Killion with a pass that she drilled into the back of the net for her 12th score of the season.

Three minutes before intermission, Goodchild put Elms ahead 5-0 when she delivered her sixth goal of the campaign on a feed from freshman midfielder Kelsey Whelihan (Cummington, Mass.).

Elms capped the scoring at the 72:52 mark of the second stanza when Goodchild again found Killion for a scoring strike – her 13th of the season.

Elms' defensive corps of junior Brianna Valente (Springfield, Mass.), sophomore Leah Spring (South Hadley, Mass.), and freshmen Ashley Venancio (Ludlow, Mass.) and Allyson Witaszek (Feeding Hills, Mass.) kept Wheelock out of rhythm all game as the Wildcats mustered just three shots.

Blazers' net minder Hayley Zisk (Baldwinville, Mass.) secured the victory with a pair of saves while Wheelock goalkeeper Alexandra Chiesa (Medford, Mass.) hauled in 20 saves in the losing effort.

Elms concludes its regular season slate on Saturday, Oct. 30 when it travels to Nashua, N.H. to take on Daniel Webster College in an NECC showdown. Game time is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
