SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Elms College junior goalkeeper Kelly Callahan (Monson, Mass.) turned away 13 shots, but a hat trick by Western New England College's (WNEC) Nina Vital (Ludlow, Mass.) helped spark the Golden Bears to a 4-0 victory over the Blazers in Saturday afternoon's non-conference contest.

With the loss, Elms falls to 0-1 overall, while WNEC improves to 1-1 on the season.

WNEC came out firing, taking 21 shots in the opening half, highlighted by Vital's first goal, an unassisted strike at the 8:37 mark and Shannon Pescatello's (Wethersfield, Conn.) score off a feed from Morgan Vogt (Hennicker, N.H.) to post a 2-0 lead.

Vital added a pair of unassisted goals separated by 2:11 at the 62:33 and 64:22 marks respectively to give the Golden Bears a 4-0 advantage.

Elms' junior midfielder Erica Griffo (Syracuse, N.Y.) fired three shots on the day to lead the Blazers in the losing effort, while Pescatello and Vital each drilled four shots on target to lead WNEC.

Elms opens its home slate on Sunday, Sept. 5 when it hosts Clark University. Game-time is set for 11:00 a.m. at Leary Field.
