Box Score

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College junior forward Jennifer Killion (Cambridge, Mass.) netted the equalizing goal in the 89th minute of play, but Clark University's Erin Peete (Clinton, Mass.) delivered the game-winning goal seven minutes into the second overtime period to lift the Cougars to a thrilling 2-1 victory over the Blazers in Sunday afternoon's non-conference women's soccer game at Leary Field.

With the loss, Elms moves to 0-2 on the season, while Clark improves to 2-1 overall.

Clark struck early when Jennifer O'Rourke's (Somerset, Mass.) through ball found Peete who was then able to sidestep the Blazers' goalkeeper and fire a shot into an open net, giving the Cougars a 1-0 lead 10:13 into the contest.

Through the rest of regulation, both teams had chances but could not execute. Clark had its best chance to add to its lead in the 76th minute when Lucia Pantuosco (Somers, Conn.) found herself beyond the defense with just the keeper to beat. Elms' junior goalkeeper Kelly Callahan (Monson, Mass.) forced Pantuosco to take a wide angle resulting in a wide shot that kept the Blazers' deficit at 1-0.

Killion then delivered her heroics when she corralled a free ball made a move through the Clark defense and then fired a fading shot that found the upper right corner of the net, evening the game at 1-1 with just 1:45 to play.

After a scoreless first period of overtime, Peete struck again, this time on a cross from Jenna Zarou (Garden City, N.Y.) in the Blazers' six-yard box. Peete punched the ball in, lifting Clark to its second victory of the season.

The Cougars out-shot Elms 34-13 in the game and held a 10-2 shot differential in the two overtime periods.

Killion and junior midfielder Erica Griffo (Syracuse, N.Y.) fired four shots each for the Blazers in the losing effort.

Callahan was a force in net for Elms, notching 18 saves, including nine in the second stanza.

Clark's net minder Joanna Clark (Windham, Maine) stopped six shots to help seal the win.

Elms returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 9 when it hosts Mount Ida. Game-time is set for 7:00 p.m. at Leary Field.
