Box Score

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College junior goalkeeper Kelly Callahan (Monson, Mass.) stopped six shots but Lesley University's Sarah Bassett (Clifton Park, N.Y.) scored what proved to be the game-winner at the 8:52 mark to lift the Lynx to a 2-0 victory over the Blazers in Saturday afternoon's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's soccer game at Leary Field.

With the loss, Elms moves to 2-7 overall, 1-1 in league play while Lesley improves to 5-4-2 on the season, 1-0-1 in conference action.

Lesley netted its first goal of the game just nine minutes into play as Bassett made a run down field and placed the ball in the back of the net beating Callahan who had come out to challenge the striker.

Thanks to stellar play from Elms' defense, the Blazers kept Lesley at bay for the remainder of the contest until Veronica Halen (San Diego, Calif.) delivered a blast that struck the nylon to give the Lynx a 2-0 advantage with 28 seconds left in the contest.

Elms was limited to just six shots, including two each from junior forward Jennifer Killion (Cambridge, Mass.), freshman forward Victoria Cebula (Granby, Mass.), and freshman midfielder Gianna Gorneault (Springfield, Mass.).

Callahan turned away three shots in each period in the losing effort.

Halen finished with four shots on net for Lesley while Bassett added three and goalkeeper Corinne Dasti (Eastham, Mass.) made one save to preserve the shutout victory.

Elms returns to action NECC on Tuesday, Oct. 5 when it travels to New London, Conn. to take on Mitchell College. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
