Killion Propels Women’s Soccer To 5-1 Win Over Becker College

Box Score

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College junior forward Jennifer Killion (Cambridge, Mass.) scored three goals and assisted on two others to propel the Blazers to a convincing 5-1 victory over Becker College in Saturday afternoon's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's soccer game at Leary Field.

With the win, Elms improves to 4-9 on the season, 3-2 in NECC play, while Becker falls to 4-10 on the season 2-3 in league action.

Five minutes into the first half Becker broke the scoreless tie when Caroline Plunkett (Rockaway, N.Y.) scored on a shot to the right corner of the net giving the Hawks an early 1-0 edge.

Becker kept the pressure on Elms until the Blazers executed a brilliant run as Killion played a beautiful cross to freshman forward Chelsea Carroll (Meriden, Conn.) who scored Elms' first goal of the game at the 33:41 mark.

Six minutes into the second frame, freshman forward Christina Goodchild (East Longmeadow, Mass.) gave the Blazers a 2-1 advantage when she headed the ball into the back of the net on a cross from Killion. Fourteen minutes later, Goodchild returned the favor as she found Killion in front of the net who scored to give Elms a 3-1 lead.

Killion struck again just 1:54 later this time on a pass from junior midfielder Erica Griffo (Syracuse, N.Y.).

Killion capped the scoring at 83:29 when she played a service from Goodchild and blasted the ball from the center of the six yard box past the keeper for a 5-1 advantage.

Killion finished the contest with seven shots on goal while junior midfielder Brianna Valente (Springfield, Mass.) tallied four shots on target.

Plunkett notched four of Becker's six shots on goal, while keeper Alena Phongsa (Putnam, Conn.) made 11 saves in the losing effort.

Blazers' junior net minder Kelly Callahan (Monson, Mass.) was stellar between the pipes, turning away five shots in the win.

Elms returns to the pitch on Thursday, Oct. 21 when it travels to Mount Holyoke College for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference contest.
