Box Score

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College junior forward Jen Killion (Cambridge, Mass.) scored her second goal of the season in the 27th minute of play and the Blazers held on to seal a 1-0 victory over Mount Ida College in Thursday evening's non-conference women's soccer game at Leary Field.

With the win, Elms notches its first victory of the season to improve to 1-2 overall. Mount Ida moves to 1-1-1 on the season.

In a game that featured stellar defensive efforts from both sides, Killion broke the scoreless tie when she headed in a beautiful cross from freshman midfielder Victoria Cebula (Granby, Mass.) giving the Blazers a 1-0 lead.

Both sides threatened to score in the second frame, but solid defense and seven saves each from Elms' junior goalkeeper Kelly Callahan (Monson, Mass.) and Mustang's net minder Meghan Begins (Jericho, Vt.) kept the Blazers edge at 1-0.

Elms outshot Mount Ida 15-11, and won the corner kick battle 7-1.

Killion fired seven of the team's 15 shots (four on target) to lead the Blazers' offensive efforts. Elena Ooms (Valatie, N.Y.) and Samantha Spiezio (Burriville, R.I.) notched three shots each in the losing effort.

Elms returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 14 when it hosts Westfield State College in a non-conference contest. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m. at Leary Field.
