Men's Golf 18th After Day One at Wildcat Invitational

CRANSTON, R.I. – The Elms College men's golf team sits in 18th on the team leaderboard after the first 18 holes of action at the 2016 Wildcat Spring Invitational, hosted at the Cranston Country Club Saturday afternoon.

The Blazers carded a team score of 354 in the first round of play. Freshman Stone Oliver (Ellington, Conn.) paced Elms with a team-low 85 to claim a share of 50th on the individual leaderboard. Sophomore Brian Cowles (East Longmeadow, Mass.) is one shot back in a tie at 57th with an 86. Sophomore Mike Fleury (West Springfield, Mass.) fired an 89 to grab a share of 70th, while senior Brian Benson (Agawam, Mass.) is in 88th with a 94. Freshman Chris Soderberg (Northampton, Mass.) rounded out the Blazers golfers, shooting a 95 for a tie at 89th.

Rhode Island College leads the tournament field with a team score of 315. Williams College is second with a 320, trailed by Nichols College (321), Middlebury College (323), and Salem State (324) to compose the Top 5. Manhattanville College is sixth with a 326, followed by Endicott and Husson (329), Worcester State (332), Western New England (335), Babson (336), UMass-Dartmouth (340), host Johnson & Wales (341), Tufts (346), Southern Maine (349), and St. Joseph's (ME) and Roger Williams (352), Elms (354), and Suffolk (380).

The Blazers will look to climb the leaderboard when they return to the course for the final round of action Sunday afternoon.
