SOUTHWICK, Mass. – The Elms College men's golf team sits at 13th overall on the team leaderboard after the first 18 holes of play at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship, hosted at The Ranch Golf Club Saturday afternoon.

The Blazers recorded a team score of 351 on day one at the ECAC Championship. Senior Dan Olive (Jefferson Township, Mass.) fired a team-low 79 to claim a share of 20th overall. Sophomore Brian Cowles (East Longmeadow, Mass.) shot a 90 for 57th, while sophomore Mike Fleury (West Springfield, Mass.) and freshman Chris Soderberg (Northampton, Mass.) grabbed a share of 58th with a 91.

"We had a good round from Dan Olive today," said Elms College Head Coach Craig Cowles. "Brian Cowles and Mike Fleury played very tight and struggled. Brian Benson played three holes and had to withdraw with a tight lower back. We'll look to bring our numbers down on Sunday."

Trinity College sits atop the leaderboard after the first day at The Ranch Golf Club.

The Bantams turned in a combined team score of 291, placing the defending champions five strokes ahead of second-place Middlebury College (296) at the end of day one. Endicott College and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute closed out the first round tied for third place at 302, with Western New England University rounding out the top five with a score of 322.

Day one featured a tight battle for the individual lead, with eight golfers separated by just five strokes at the top of the leaderboard.

Will Rosenfield, who recently claimed ECAC DIII Co-Rookie of the Month honors for September, carded a 3-under 69 to end the first round with a two-stroke advantage over Middlebury's Scott Guidotti (71).  Brian Bak of Wentworth Institute of Technology currently sits in third after posting an even-par 72.

Closely behind, Jack Junge (Trinity), Ben Palazzo (Endicott), Craig Bokenfohr (RPI) and Jeff Durkin (Trinity) sit tied in fourth place after each posted a first-round 73. Endicott's Drew Benshoff also sits within striking distance of the leaders after day one following a round of 74.
