Cowles Named to NEIGA Executive Board

HARWICH, Mass. – Elms College Head Golf Coach Craig Cowles has been named to the position of Secretary on the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association's Executive Board. This is a two-year position that will progress through the ranks of the board every two years (Secretary, Second Vice President, Vice President, and President).

The New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) is a non-profit organization, which was first organized in 1934 at the Oakley Country Club in Watertown, Massachusetts. With the exception of the World War II years of 1941-45, it has maintained both individual and team championships annually. It is believed to be the largest gathering of collegiate players from NCAA Divisions I, II and III competing at the same location on a 36-hole layout. There were 37 teams that participated in the 2015 fall championship hosted at The Captains Golf Course in Brewster, Massachusetts on October 25-26. This location provides two par-72 golf courses and many volunteers to assist in numerous ways.

The NEIGA tournament receives national recognition. NCAA committees recognize this tournament as an important event in the selection of teams and individuals to be nominated for the NCAA national tournaments. The NEIGA receives support from the Massachusetts Golf Association who supplies officials to interpret rules and assist the rules committee.
