Men's Golf 16th After Day One of Williams Invitational

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Elms College men's golf squad claimed a share of 16th overall on the team leaderboard after the first round of action at the Williams Invitational, hosted at Taconic Golf Club Saturday afternoon.

The Blazers posted a team score of 325 in the first 18 holes of play. Sophomore Brian Cowles (East Longmeadow, Mass.) fired a team-low four-over 75 to sit tied at 11th. Senior Dan Olive (Jefferson Township, N.J.) was three strokes back with a 78 for a share of 43rd. Sophomore Mike Fleury (West Springfield, Mass.) is 76th after shooting an 84, followed by freshman Chris Soderberg (Northampton, Mass.) in 87th with an 88, and senior Brian Benson (Agawam, Mass.) at 91st with a 92.

Rhode Island College leads the tournament field with a 298, trailed by Salem State (300) in second, Trinity (Conn.) (301) at third, New York University (303) in fourth, and Williams 'B' team (305) rounded out the top five on the team leaderboard. Hamilton College (306) is sixth, followed by Skidmore (307), Western New England (307), Amherst (309), Tufts (309), Williams 'A' (309), St. Lawrence (310), Manhattanville (311), Middlebury (314), Johnson & Wales (318), Elms (325), Williams 'C' (325), Wesleyan (338), MCLA (387), and Springfield College (395).

The Blazers will wrap out the tournament on day two Sunday afternoon at Taconic Golf Club.
