Men's Golf Places Second at the 2015 NECC Championship

STOW, Mass. – The Elms College men's golf team finished second place at the 2015 New England Collegiate College (NECC) Men's Golf Championship, hosted at the Stow Country Club North Course Sunday afternoon.

Senior Brian Benson (Agawam, Mass.) and sophomore Brian Cowles (East Longmeadow, Mass.) earned Second Team All-Conference status, with Benson taking sixth overall with a 159 (76-83) and Cowles claiming a share of tenth with a 168 (85-83). Sophomore Mike Fleury (West Springfield, Mass.) placed 14th with a 174 (85-89), while senior Dan Olive (Jefferson Township, N.J.) (87-88) and freshman Chris Soderberg (Northampton, Mass.) (80-95) finished tied at 15th with a 175.

Babson won the 2015 NECC Championship with a team score of 617, claiming back-to-back titles and earn a bid to the NCAA Division National Championship. The Blazers fired a score of 669, followed by Becker in third (699), Daniel Webster at fourth (709), Springfield College in fifth (712), Newbury at sixth (715), and Mitchell in seventh with a 774.

"Babson is the class of the conference and really played well," said Elms College Head Coach Craig Cowles. "Brian Benson and Brian Cowles earning Second Team honors was our highlight."

Babson freshman Riley Whitham (Harvard, Mass.) shot a 144 (73-71) to earn NECC Player of the Year and NECC Rookie of the Year honors. Babson Head Coach Jeff Page was named NECC Coach of the Year.
