Men's Golf 11th After Day One at RIC Invitational

WARWICK, R.I. – The Elms College men's golf team sits in 11th place on the team leaderboard after the first round of action at the 2016 Rhode Island College Spring Invitational at Valley Country Club Friday afternoon.

Freshman Stone Oliver (Ellington, Conn.) fired a team low 78 (39-39) to hold a share of ninth on the individual leaderboard. Sophomore Brian Cowles (41-42; East Longmeadow, Mass.), sophomore Mike Fleury (44-39l West Springfield, Mass.) and freshman Chris Soderberg (40-43; Northampton, Mass.) are all tied at 41st after shooting an 83. Senior Dan Olive (Jefferson Township, N.J.) round out the Blazers golfers coming in tied at 54th with an 84 (39-45).

Elms posted a team score of 327 to sit 12 shot off the lead. Host Rhode Island College leads the tournament field with a 315, followed by Worcester State in second (317), UMass-Dartmouth at third (318), Nichols College in fourth (319), and Johnson & Wales (R.I.) made up the top five with a 320. Manhattan College, Endicott, and RIC 'B' are tied at 6th with a 323, trailed by Babson (324), Western New England (325), Elms (327), Tufts and Roger Williams (337), St. Joseph's (ME) (340), Suffolk (348), and Wentworth (357).

The Blazers will conclude tournament play Saturday afternoon at Valley Country Club.
