Men's Golf 22nd at Duke Nelson Invitational

MIDDLEBURY, V.T. – The Elms College men's golf squad improved by five strokes on the final day of action at the 32nd annual Duke Nelson Invitational, hosted by Middlebury College at The Ralph Myhre Golf Course Sunday afternoon.

The Blazers carded a team score of 335 in the final 18 holes to finish with a total score of 675 (340-335). Sophomores Brian Cowles (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and Mike Fleury (West Springfield, Mass.) finished tied at 87th, shooting a 166 across two rounds. Cowles fired matching 83-83 in two rounds, while Fleury shot a 79 and an 87. Senior Dan Olive (Jefferson Township, N.J.) improved by seven strokes on day two, shooting an 80 to finish with 167 for a share of 92nd. Freshman Chris Soderberg (Northampton, Mass.) shaved six strokes off his round on the final day, posting an 85 to finish with tied at 113th with a 176.

Williams captured the 32nd Annual Duke Nelson Tournament as the Ephs shot a 309 on day two to finish with a 614, five strokes ahead of Babson (619). Rensselaer (622) followed by Salem State (623) and Rochester (625) rounded out the top five on the team leaderboard. Jacob Watt-Moris of Williams took home medalist honors, firing a 69 on day one followed by a 79 for a two-day total of 148.

The Blazers will be back on the links when they host the Blazer Invitational this weekend. Play will be held at Elmcrest Golf Course in Longmeadow, Massachusetts.
