Box Score

LEICESTER, Mass. - Elms College sophomore goalkeeper Alexandra Bonavita (Agawam, Mass.) recorded eight saves, but a goal on a penalty corner from Becker College's Jessica Provencher (Berwick, Maine) lifted the Hawks to a narrow 1-0 victory over the Blazers in Saturday afternoon's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) field hockey game.

With the loss, Elms falls to 0-10 on the season, 0-3 in NECC play, while Becker improves to 4-8 overall, 2-1 in league play.

Seven minutes into the contest, Becker earned a penalty corner in the Blazers' end. Carly Barone (Attleboro, Mass.) sent the ball to Provencher who fired the ball into the back of the cage for what proved to be the game-winner.

Becker managed 10 shots in the first half, but Bonavita provided six of her eight saves in the first 35 minutes, keeping the Blazers' deficit at one goal.

Elms' sophomore forward Jaclyn Mederios (Brant Rock, Mass.) blasted the Blazers' only shot of the day in the second half, but the ball skipped wide, keeping the score at 1-0.

Provencher, Brooke Cote (Fitchburg, Mass.), Victoria Sirchia (Goshen, Conn.) and Michelle Griczika (Barre, Mass.) each took two shots on target for Becker in the winning effort.

Elms returns to NECC action on Tuesday, Oct. 12 when it hosts Daniel Webster College at 7:00 p.m. at Leary Field.
