Westfield State Downs Field Hockey, 7-0

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Elms College sophomore goalkeeper Alexandra Bonavita (Agawam, Mass.) collected five saves but three goals from Westfield State University's Jessi Gould (Canton, Mass.) lifted the Owls to a 7-0 victory over the Blazers in Thursday evening's non-conference field hockey game.

With the loss, Elms falls to 0-6 on the season while Westfield State improves to 4-3 overall.

Gould put Westfield on the board early when she found the back of the net at the 8:06 mark of the opening period. Jessica Donovan (Methuen, Mass.) then scored the first of her two goals of the evening in the 23rd minute to give the Owls a 2-0 edge. Seven minutes later, the Owls extended the lead to three when Nicole Gagnon (Andover, Mass.) capitalized on a penalty stroke.

Fifty-two seconds into the second stanza, Westfield State struck again when Liz Hall (Southwick, Mass.) blasted a goal. Gould then struck for back-to-back goals separated by 1:50 before Donovan capped the scoring at the 66:54 mark.

Sarah Pliszka (Enfield, Conn.) notched three assists in the contest to highlight the winning effort.

Elms returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 28 when it travels to Boston, Mass. to open New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action against Wheelock College. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
