CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College sophomore goalkeeper Alexandra Bonavita (Agawam, Mass.) turned away 11 shots and junior defender Emily McInerney (Glastonbury, Conn.) added a defensive save, but Wheelock College's Despina Savvoulides (Norwalk, Conn.) recorded a pair of goals to help lift the Wildcats to a 4-0 win in Tuesday evening's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) opener for both teams at Winsor Field in Boston, Mass.

With the loss, Elms falls to 0-7 overall, 0-1 in NECC action, while Wheelock improves to 2-3 on the season, 1-0 in league play.

Savvoulides opened the scoring in the 14th minute of action when she tipped the ball into the cage off a cross from Milbrey Hendrix (Kennett Square, Pa.).

The Wildcats upped their lead to 2-0 when Kara Widdison (Greenfield, Mass.) corralled the ball, spun past a defender and shot the ball into the right corner of the net at the 19:42 mark before Savvoulides struck for a second time just three minutes later, this time off a cross from Jenna Ghoman (Danvers, Mass.).

Wheelock capped the scoring in the 68th minute when Hendrix delivered a beautiful cross on a penalty corner to Taylor Rogers (Essex, Mass.) who connected for a one-time shot that sailed into the net lifting Wildcats to the 4-0 victory.

Wheelock finished with 16 shots on goal including four from Savvoulides and three from Hendrix.

Elms returns to league action on Saturday, Oct. 2 when it hosts Bay Path College. Game time is set for 11:00 a.m. at Leary Field.
