Field Hockey Falls To Simmons College, 6-0
BOSTON, Mass. – Elms College sophomore goalkeeper Alexandra Bonavita (Agawam, Mass.) turned away 11 shots, but Simmons College received a goal from TJ Cowin (Tuftonboro, N.H.) in the first half which proved to be the game-winner as the Sharks downed the Blazers 6-0 in Wednesday night's non-conference field hockey contest in Boston, Mass.
With the loss Elms falls to 0-9 on the season while Simmons improves to 4-6 overall.
The Blazers defense held Simmons to just one goal in the first
half. Cowin's scoring strike came at the 19:02 mark when she
received a pass from Courtney Joachim (Concord,
Mass.) giving the Sharks an early 1-0 lead.
Clinging to a 1-0 edge, Simmons' Katelyn Tighe (Easton, Mass.) highlighted a five-goal second half, scoring a goal and assisting on two others. Tighe provided helpers on scores from Marianna Brown (Newton, N.H.) and Brigid Rushe (Belmont, Mass.) before netting her own goal at the 65:10 mark.
The Sharks' Kara Masse (Portland, Maine) capped the scoring when she controlled a pass from Cowin and hit the back of the cage in the 68th minute to lift Simmons to a 6-0 win.
Simmons' keeper Renna Smith (Belfast, Maine) earned the shutout victory playing all 70 minutes between the pipes.
Elms returns to action Saturday Oct. 9 when they head to Becker in a New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) game slated to start at 1 p.m.
