Cosenza Named Head Field Hockey Coach And Fitness Center Manager

Elms College Athletic Director Louise McCleary recently announced that Kim Cosenza has been named the department’s head field hockey coach and fitness center manager.

“I’m really excited and honored to become a part of the Elms College family,” Coach Cosenza said. “I look forward to working with the team and contributing to the athletic department.”

Coach Cosenza brings a wealth of experience and knowledge of the game of field hockey to her position at Elms College.

Prior to joining the coaching staff at Elms, Coach Cosenza spent the last two seasons as the assistant field hockey coach at Springfield College helping the Pride compile a 21-20 overall record including a 12-9 mark in 2009 that was highlighted by a trip to the New England Women’s And Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship Tournament title game. During her time there, she assisted in recruiting, fundraising, budget preparation, editing film, practice planning, game preparation, tournament organization, non-traditional season practices and managed “Play 4 the Cure Days.”

"We are excited to have Kim join our staff," McCleary stated. "She has an impressive field hockey background that includes coaching and playing that will be a good fit for our program. She will also bring tremendous energy and experience to the fitness center position."

As a four-year player at Worcester State University, Coach Cosenza was a National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III All-Star in 2008, was a First Team All-Little East Conference selection in 2008, and served as a team captain during that campaign. She also garnered the Worcester State Field Hockey Leadership Award in 2008, was named to the Little East All-Academic squad in 2007 and 2008 and was a member of the NFHCA National Academic Squad in 2008 and 2009. During her four years, the Lancers posted an overall record of 41-38. Coach Cosenza, primarily a defender, scored nine goals and registered four assists during her collegiate playing career.

Coach Cosenza received a bachelor’s degree in health education from Worcester State and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in athletic administration from Springfield. She also anticipates receiving Bigger, Faster, Stronger certification in the spring of 2011.
