CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College junior goalkeeper Jenna Lipscomb (Cambridge, Mass.) was stellar in her debut between the pipes, notching 26 saves, but Smith College had six different players score to help pace the Pioneers to a 7-0 victory over the Blazers in Wednesday evening's non-conference field hockey game at Leary Field.

With the loss, Elms falls to 0-4, while Smith improves to 2-2 on the season. Smith defeated Elms 3-0 just five days earlier at the Betty Richey Invitational Field Hockey Tournament.

Smith got to work early as Nia Spooner (Bronx, N.Y.) delivered the first of five first half scores just 1:22 into the contest. Lena von Schorlemer (Frankfurt, Germany) then capitalized on a pass in front from Alexa DeJesus (Somerset, Mass.) at the 11:36 mark to make the score 2-0.

The Pioneers added to their lead when Natalie Wickles' (Hatfield, Mass.) pass found Alexandra Stein (Ann Arbor, Mich.) who was able to score Smith's third goal of the frame. Von Schorlemer then netted her second goal of the game when she rebounded the ball off a previous shot and punched it into the right side of the cage.

Smith's fifth tally of the first period came on a penalty stroke that Phoebe Hopkins (Philadelphia, Pa.) blasted to the right side of the net.

Smith recorded 34 shots and 10 penalty corners in the first half, and 18 of Lipscomb's saves came in the first 35 minutes of play.

In the second half, the Blazers played solid defense and limited Smith to 17 shots. Rebecca Rosen scored on an assist from Meg Richardson (Kents Hill, Maine) at the 42:31 mark before DeJesus closed out the scoring 16 minutes later.

Elms' senior defender Laura Sweetman (Springfield, Mass.) notched a defensive save in the first half.

Elms returns to non-conference action on Saturday, Sept. 18 when it hosts Rivier College. Game time is set for 12:00 p.m. at Leary Field.
