hitter Melissa Clark (Chicopee, MA) downed five
kills and added two solo blocks and two assisted blocks, but St.
Joseph College (CT) earned a hard-fought 3-0 (21-25, 22-25, 19-25)
sweep in Wednesday evening's non-conference women's volleyball
match.
With the loss, Elms slips to 3-14 on the season, while St. Joseph
improves its record to 7-9 overall.
Senior setter Kim Phillips (Randolph, MA)
collected a team-best nine assists, while sophomore setter/outside
hitter Jen Rego (Fall River, MA) added six assists
to help pace the Elms offense.
Sophomore outside hitter Stacy Croteau (Agawam,
MA) joined Clark with five kills on the evening, while
junior middle hitter Laura Kulig (Holyoke, MA) led
the defensive effort with 11 digs.
St. Joseph's Catherine Irwin (Barkhamstead, CT) had a match-high 15 kills and 11 digs to lead the Blue Jays in victory while Brittany Souza (Newington, CT) was also a force at the net and finished with 10 kills and five blocks.
Fransiola Cekolli (Waterbury, CT) and Katelyn Morency (Vernon, CT) sparked the defensive effort with 15 and 11 digs respectively in the win.
Elms returns to non-conference action on Saturday, Oct. 10-11 when it competes at the Seven Sisters Tournament hosted by Smith College.
