Women’s Volleyball Swept By Smith, Vassar At Seven Sisters Invitational

NORTHAMPTON, MA - Elms College sophomore outside hitter Stacy Croteau (Agawam, MA) collected a combined 10 kills, but the Blazers were swept by Smith College, 3-0 (12-25, 12-25, 14-25) and Vassar College, 3-0 (18-25, 12-25, 13-25) in day one of the Seven Sisters Invitational women’s volleyball tournament hosted by Smith College.

With both losses, Elms falls to 3-16 on the season.

Croteau downed four of her 10 kills against Smith and also registered 14 digs in the losing effort, while freshman outside hitter Christina Martin (Chicopee, MA) smashed a team-high five kills in Elms’ first match.

Against Vassar in the second contest, Croteau finished with a team-best six kills and added 11 digs, while senior middle hitter Melissa Clark (Chicopee, MA) finished with a team-high 19 digs. Sophomore setter/outside hitter Jen Rego (Fall River, MA) dug 10 balls in the losing effort.

Blazers’ senior setter Kim Phillips (Randolph, MA) handed out a combined 15 assists on the day, including 10 in the team’s second match against the Brewers.

Elms will conclude Seven Sisters Tournament action on Sunday, with an 11:00 a.m. contest against Mount Holyoke who the Blazers beat 3-1 on Sept. 24 earlier this season.
