Soars Past Becker, 3-0
CHICOPEE, MA - Elms College sophomore outside
hitter Stacy Croteau (Agawam, MA) downed a
match-high 13 kills to highlight a 3-0 (25-16,25-21,25-18) sweep of
Becker College, snapping the Blazers’ eight-match losing
skid, in Friday evening’s New England Collegiate Conference
(NECC) volleyball contest at Leicester Gym.
With the win, Elms improves to 4-18 on the season, 1-2 in NECC
play, while Becker falls to 8-11 overall, and loses its first
conference contest to move to 2-1 in league action.
The Blazers have now won six straight against Becker dating back
to 2007 and currently lead the all-time series with the Hawks,
7-6.
Senior middle hitter Melissa Clark (Chicopee, MA)
and senior setter Kim Phillips (Randolph, MA)
paced the Elms offense with 10 kills apiece, while sophomore setter
Jen Rego (Fall River, MA) directed the attack with
11 assists.
Clark added three solo blocks and assisted on another to lead the
Blazers defense, while freshman outside hitter Christina
Martin (Chicopee, MA) led the squad with three defensive
digs and added four kills in the winning effort.
Elms returns to conference action on Wednesday, Oct. 21 for a
contest with Bay Path. First-serve is slated for 7:00 p.m. at
Picknelly Arena.
