Women’s Soccer Downs Bay Path, 3-0
LONGMEADOW, MA – Elms College received
three scoring strikes from three different players to lift the
Blazers to a dominant, 3-0 victory over Bay Path College in
Saturday afternoon’s New England Collegiate Conference (NECC)
women’s soccer contest at Ryan Field.
With the win, Elms improves to 5-7-1 overall, 3-1 in NECC action;
while Bay Path slips to 1-10 on the season, and remains winless in
conference play at 0-3.
Elms scored just two minutes into the game when sophomore forward
Jen Killion (Cambridge, MA) found the back of the
net with a shot from 20 yards out for her second goal of the
season, giving the Blazers an early 1-0 edge.
After being held scoreless for the rest of the half despite 14
shots, Elms struck again at the 67:01 mark, this time when senior
Kelsey Battige (Monson, MA) dribbled in from the
corner and beat the Wildcats’ keeper lifting the score to
2-0. The goal was her first of the season.
Sophomore Laura Boone (Chicopee, MA) got in on
the action shortly thereafter, notching her first collegiate-career
goal at the 70:14 mark to give the Blazers a commanding 3-0
lead.
Elms outshot Bay Path 33-1 on the afternoon keeping the ball in
the Wildcats’ third of the field throughout the contest.
Freshman keeper Molly Corse (Bernardston, MA)
earned her fifth shutout of the season without needing to make a
stop.
Bay Path received a 14-save effort from net-minder
Samantha Gunseth (Swanzey, NH) in the loss.
Elms returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 14 when Newbury comes to
town for a NECC contest. Game time is slated for 4:00 p.m. at Leary
Field.
