Corse, Leland and Gagne Earn NECC Weekly Honors
CHICOPEE, MA – Elms College had three
student-athletes garner New England Collegiate Conference (NECC)
honors for the week of Oct. 19-25 as announced by the league office
on Monday.
The women’s soccer team swept this week’s awards as
senior forward Krystyna Gagne (Methuen, MA) was
named NECC Player of the Week, while freshman goalkeeper
Molly Corse (Bernardston, MA) earned rookie of the
week honors.
Freshman forward Tavish Leland (Bridgton, ME) was
named the NECC men’s soccer rookie of the week.
For the second straight week, Gagne earned player of the week
honors. Gagne single-handedly led the Blazers to a 5-1 victory over
conference foe Becker netting all five goals. With this feat, Gagne
became Elms’ all-time leading goal scorer with 44 career
goals.
Corse posted 90 minutes of tough defense to help lift the Blazers
to a 5-1 win over Becker. Corse batted away seven of the
Hawks’ eight shots on net in the winning effort, helping Elms
to its 6-1 NECC record. This is Corse’s third conference
accolade of the season.
Leland played a major role in Elms’ 3-2 overtime win over
NECC rival Southern Vermont. Leland knotted the game at 2-2 by
scoring the team's second goal of the contest which would
eventually send the game into overtime. Leland’s score helped
lift the Blazers to the win and a split in this week’s
action. This is Leland’s first conference honor of the
season.
