Box Score

CHICOPEE, MA – Elms College junior midfielder Alison Couture (Chicopee, MA) netted a pair of goals and senior forward Krystyna Gagne (Methuen, MA) delivered what proved to be the game-winner as the Blazers upended Mount Holyoke 3-2 in thrilling fashion in Saturday afternoon’s non-conference women’s soccer game at Leary Field.

Elms College earned its first victory of the season and moves to 1-4 overall, while Mount Holyoke falls to 1-4 on the season with the loss.

With the score knotted at 2-2, Gagne beat Lyons goalkeeper Caitlin Pacheco (Montclair, NJ) in the 64th minute of play with what proved to be the game-winning tally as the ball sailed into the back of the net, capping a three-goal rally.

The win over Mount Holyoke was the first for the Blazers since 2006.

Mount Holyoke raced out to an early lead as Mallory Phaneuf (Manchester, NH) scored on a pass from Lauren Orr (Fullerton, CA) just four minutes into the contest. Orr continued finding teammates as she connected with Brooke Winter-Potter (Marathon, NY) at the 21:18 mark to give Mount Holyoke a 2-0 lead.

From there, Elms began its comeback. Couture netted her first goal of the game on a rebound six minutes before intermission, and then scored again six minutes into the second half when she capitalized on a feed from Gagne following a scramble in front of the Lyons goal.

The teams battled back and forth before Gagne followed through with her heroic score.

Elms edged the Lyons in shots 20-17 to help seal the win.

Blazers freshman goalkeeper Molly Corse (Bernardston, ME) was solid in the win, turning away 10 shots while Pacheco earned seven saves on the afternoon.

Elms returns to action Wednesday, Sept. 22 when it hosts Smith College in a non-conference tilt. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. at Leary Field.
