Women’s Basketball Roars Past Bay Path College, 66-44

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College sophomore guard Jen Normandie (Westford, Mass.) and freshman guard Erin Broughton (Essex Junction, Vt.) tied for a team-high in points with nine each as the Blazers downed Bay Path College, 66-44 in Thursday evening's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's basketball game at Picknelly Arena.

With the win, Elms has now won four straight to improve to 6-8 on the season, 4-1 in NECC action, while Bay Path falls to 0-15 overall, 0-7 in league play.

Trailing 13-12 with 6:03 to play in the opening period, freshman forward Nicolette Martin (Colchester, Conn.) hit a mid-range jumper that sparked a 16-4 run to close out the half that featured a layup by Normandie and four treys including one each from Broughton, Martin, and freshmen guards Taylor Darby (Bristol, Conn.) and Emily Boucher (Ashburnham, Mass.) to post a 28-17 lead at halftime.

Normandie scored seven of her nine points in the first 20 minutes of play, while the Blazers shot a sparkling 44.4-percent from beyond the arc.

Elms scored the first six points of the second half on buckets by Normandie and junior forward Erika Murphy (Torrington, Conn.), and two foul shots by junior guard Katie Condon (Sandy Hook, Conn.) to stake a 17-point 34-17 lead at the 17:45 mark.

A layup underneath by Condon 5:08 later extended Elms' lead to 47-26 (21 points) with 12:37 to play and the Blazers never looked back, never allowing Bay Path to get to within more than 18 and led by as many as 24 (62-38 at the 1:29 mark and 64-40 with 42 seconds to play) en route to their 22-point win.

Bay Path's Justine Hook (Berwick, Pa.) was sensational in the losing effort, collecting a game-high 23 points and dishing out four assists, while Sam Hahn (Hadley, Mass.) hauled in a team-best 11 rebounds and chipped in with four points.

Brittney Alexander (Enfield, Conn.) added eight points on 4 of 7 shooting from the field and notched three steals for the Wildcats in the loss.

For the night, Elms shot 36.8-percent from the floor including a 40.0 clip from three-point range as 12 players scored for the Blazers.

Boucher, Murphy, Condon and Martin each netted seven points, while Darby chipped in six in the win.

Condon was also a force on both sides of the floor hauling in a game-high 12 rebounds in addition to dealing out four helpers.

Murphy added four steals and a blocked shot in the win while freshman guard Ellen Donohue (Southington, Conn.) passed out four assists.

Elms returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 22 when it hosts Daniel Webster College in an NECC showdown. Tip-off is slated for 4:00 p.m. at Picknelly Arena.
