NECC Winter Preseason Polls Announced

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – The 2010-11 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) winter preseason polls were announced on Thursday for men and women’s basketball. The polls were voted upon by member head coaches.

The Elms College men’s basketball team was tabbed to finish second in the NECC after receiving 66 points and two first place votes. Becker College was voted as the top team in the preseason after collecting 68 points and six first place votes.

The Blazers have won six consecutive conference titles including the first two conference championships since the NECC was born in 2008.

The Blazers’ women’s basketball team was chosen to finish third in the NECC as voted upon by league head coaches. Elms received 59 votes – just three behind Lesley University (62) who was selected to finish second. Daniel Webster College received eight of the possible nine first place votes and totaled 79 points and was chosen as the preseason favorite.

Elms is coming off a stellar 2009-10 season that saw the Blazers reach the NECC Championship tournament title game as the fourth seed.
