Alverio, Boucher Garner NECC Weekly Honors

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Elms College senior men’s basketball player Juan Alverio (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico) and Blazers’ freshman women’s basketball player Emily Boucher (Ashburnham, Mass.) garnered New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) weekly honors as announced by the organization on Monday.

Alverio was named the men’s basketball player of the week following a 2-0 week that included conference wins over Wheelock College and Lesley University. Alverio averaged a double-double for the Blazers during the week, totaling 28 points (14.0 per game) and 34 rebounds (17.0 per game) including a collegiate-career high 20 boards in the team’s win over Wheelock. He also added six assists, seven blocked shots and seven steals during the week. This is his first NECC Player of the Week award of the season.

Boucher was named NECC Rookie of the Week on the women’s side, as she averaged 8.0 points, 3.0 assists and 3.7 steals over three conference games.  She scored in double digits in two consecutive games, netting 10 points in a 52-61 loss to Southern Vermont College and adding 12 points in a tough 54-53 loss to Mitchell College. For the week, Boucher added 11 steals, nine assists and eight rebounds to help her secure her first weekly accolade of the 2010-11 campaign.
