Men's Golf 12th At JWU Spring Invitational

CRANSTON, R.I. – The Elms College men's golf team placed 12th overall on the team leaderboard after the final round of action at the Johnson & Wales University Spring Invitational, hosted at the Cranston Country Club Sunday afternoon.

The Blazers carded a team score of 657 (334-323), improving by 11 strokes in the final 18 holes of play. Junior Mike Fleury (West Springfield, Mass.) fired a team-low 154 (78-76), while sophomore Chris Soderberg (Northampton, Mass.) was three strokes back with a 157 (80-77). Junior Brian Cowles (East Longmeadow, Mass.) posted a 170 (85-85), and freshman Matt King (Feeding Hills, Mass.) finished with a 176 (91-85). Freshman Mike McFadden (Northampton, Mass.) rounded out the Blazers golfers with a 187 (99-88).

Western New England won the tournament with a score of 612 (309-303). Babson (619) placed second, followed by Tufts (622), Rhode Island College (627), and host Johnson & Wales (636) to compose the top five of the team leaderboard. Husson (637) was sixth, trailed by Endicott (638), Salem State (642), UMass-Dartmouth (644), Nichols and Providence (653), Elms, Southern Maine (663), Suffolk (685), Roger Williams (691), Worcester State (712), and Maine Maritime (721).

The Blazers will return to the course when they host the Blazer Spring Invitational at the Orchards Golf Club in South Hadley Monday afternoon.
