Men's Golf Ninth At Western New England Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Elms College men's golf team placed ninth overall at the Western New England University Invitational, hosted by WNEU, at Veterans Memorial Golf Course Thursday afternoon.

The Blazers carded a team score of 331 to finish 16 strokes back of a top-five finish. Junior Mike Fleury (West Springfield, Mass.) fired a team-low 78 to claim a share of 13th overall. Sophomore Chris Soderberg (Northampton, Mass.) shot an 83 for a tie at 34th, while junior Brian Cowles (East Longmeadow, Mass.) was one stroke back in 38th with an 84. Freshman William Marchand (Springfield, Mass.) finished tied at 43rd with an 86, and classmate Matt King (Feeding Hills, Mass.) rounded out the Blazers golfers, checking in at 48th with an 88.

The Western New England University 'A' team won the event with a score of 300. Rhode Island College was two strokes back in second, followed by Babson (303), Endicott (309), Salem State (315), Nichols (316), Springfield (325), Westfield (330), Elms, and Western New England 'B' completed the tournament field with a 333.

The Blazers will be back on the links when they travel to the Johnson & Wales University Spring Invitational at the Cranston Country Club in Cranston, Rhode Island this weekend.
