Men's Golf Third After 18 Holes At NECC Championship

WEST BOYLSTON, Mass. – The Elms College men's golf team owns the third spot on the team leaderboard after the first round of action at the 2016 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championship, hosted by Mitchell College at Wachusett Country Club Saturday afternoon. The Blazers posted a team score of 322 and sit 24 strokes back of clubhouse leader Babson College.

The duo of junior Mike Fleury (West Springfield, Mass.) and sophomore Chris Soderberg (Northampton, Mass.) led the Blazers with a team-low score of 79 to sit tied at seventh overall. Junior Brian Cowles (East Longmeadow, Mass.) each own a share of ninth overall after shooting an 80, while freshmen William Marchand (Springfield, Mass.) and Matt King (Feeding Hills, Mass.) both tied at 14th with an 84.

The Beavers pace the tournament field with a team-low 298. Springfield College sits one stroke ahead of the Blazers with a 321, while Daniel Webster (347), Mitchell (367), and Becker (435) rounded out the competition field.

The Blazers will look to climb the leaderboard during the final round of play at Wachusett C.C. Sunday afternoon. Elms tees off at 11:00 a.m.
